Great British Sewing Bee Sewing Studio Review

Great British Sewing Bee Sewing Studio

If you’re looking for a first sewing machine for a child then definitely consider the Great British Sewing Bee Sewing Studio. This is a brilliant present for a craft-loving child and the perfect introduction to sewing.

The box comes with everything you need to get started. It has a small child sized Starter sewing machine, foot pedal, mains adaptor, instructions, accessories tin, 1 measuring tape, 1 Spare machine needle, 1 Needle threader, 3 Bobbins, 3 Spools and 1 Thimble

There is also everything you need to make your first project, a cute clutch bag.

The sewing machine is a really great idea for children as it is much smaller so easier to control. It comes with a foot pedal but also two automatic speeds. This makes it much easier as it is hard at first to master using the peddle and also moving the fabric at the same time. There is also a handy finger guard to protect little fingers from getting caught in the machine.

I love crafts but I hate following instructions and not the best at working machinery so I was a little nervous. I found it very easy to set up the machine and thread the needle. The instructions were clear and easy to use and there were handy arrows on the machine itself. The only part I found hard was that I didn’t set the tension right at first so it was looking very messy at the back. Luckily I knew some other lovely bloggers who had already reviewed it and they soon set me straight.

The project was a brilliant idea, as you can get started straight away. It was fairly quick to make, taking only about forty-five minutes once we got going. The project involved two pretty colours of material, made into a bag with a lining. The good thing about this project is that even if you didn’t have the neatest cutting or straightest row of stitches you would still get good results. As this was the first time my 10-year-old had used a sewing machine her sewing was a little wobbly but the end result looked good.

This is a lovely project for a beginner. The fabric is quite stiff so it is easy to use. There is a little bit of hand sewing involved, as you need to sew on the button and the hole you use to pull the fabric through. There is one section where you need to sew through four layers of material and this was a little trickier. We just turned the handle to move the needle automatically and it went through alright. We also made a small mistake and put the flap on the wrong way around meaning our bag was totally spotty rather than being in contrasting fabrics. It would have helped to have had a large picture of the finished project so you knew what to expect.
