Molly was six today and for hger birthday treat I took two of her school friends to see Wreck It Ralph. We all loved it and I thought it would be fun to make her Vanellope’s racer as her birthday cake.

If you haven’t seen the film then one of the main characters makes a kart out of cake, biscuits and sweets. There is a fun sequence where they are putting the kart together and making a huge mess. I love the fact that it needs to look like a child has made it. This would be great at a party – all the children could make their own.

The cake is actually really simple. It just needs to be a long rectangle. We cut off the end and moulded into a very basic car shape. It has a slope one end and is cut out the other.

Molly did all the icing. We used a ready made chocolate fudge icing over the whole of the car. The front bumper is pink and green royal icing. It didn’t matter if it looked a bit messy. The whole car is covered in star sprinkles and hundred and thousands.

The wheels are biscuits of two different sizes. While Molly was school I finished off the racer and surprised her with a Vanellope figure – which actually comes with its own plastic kart too.

The kart is finished with lots of sweets. Dolly mixtures and jelly beans form the lights. The back bumper is made from a pink wafer biscuit on two chocolate fingers. The kart sits on a rainbow candy road and there are a family of jelly babies watching.
