How do you like to raise money for charity? Jumping out of a plane? Running for mile after mile after mile? Hiking the desert or climbing a mountain? Jumping into a bath full of cold baked beans?
Find any of these appealing? Me neither. Instead why not have a few friends round, have a nice cup of tea or coffee, eat something a little bit naughty and spend an hour having a civilised conversation, or a good old gossip – depending on the friends you invite. Now doesn’t that sound a much nicer way to raise some money?
The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is the main fundraising event from Macmillan Cancer Support. It is on the 28th of September 2012. All you have to do is hold coffee morning and take donations. It can be as large or small as you want. We used to have one very year where I worked and everyone just put money in a jar and had an extra homemade treat at break time, which was brilliant and fairly easy to organise.
Last year raised ten million for the charity. Fantastic – and I’m sure everyone taking part had a thoroughly lovely time. This year Silver Spoon are the official sugar sponsor for the event, and they have decided to launch a fantastic competition as part of their activity. They are hosting the Silver Spoon Local Little Hero Awards, where they are scouring the country for local heroes under the age of 18 who have done something truly special. The winner will receive their favourite cake made by Master Pâtissier Eric Lanlard, and ten runners up will receive a yummy Silver Spoon baking hamper.
