Warwick Castle in Winter

Warwick Castle

I knew exactly what I wanted to do for my birthday this year. I wanted to get my Merlin pass and visit our closest attraction: Warwick Castle. We had visited before but never visited Warwick castle in winter and I was really interested to see what it would be like. We had all really enjoyed our visit last time and I thought it would be a great day out for the whole family.

The day was incredibly beautiful. It was perfect conditions. We got our Merlin passes at a special cabin set up and there were no queues. The first thing we did was visit the falconry display.

It was absolutely fascinating to see the birds of prey swooping over the castle. It really made the scenery come to life. We learned so many interesting facts from the knowledgable handler.

After that, we had a really delicious Sunday roast in the restaurant. We were thinking of just getting sandwiches, but I’m glad we didn’t as we all enjoyed our meal. There was lots of choice and the girls enjoyed being able to pick their own food from the carvery. We also had a great time at the Princess Tower. This is an interactive show where the children dress as Princesses and have to solve a puzzle. The girls loved how the pictures came to life and talked to them. It was very clever.

I had been alone with the girls on my last visit and as the twins are scared of heights we hadn’t been able to climb the battlements. This time, I loved climbing up the towers and enjoying the view. Warwick looked really beautiful.

It was a great way to get a view of the whole of Warwick Castle. We were also able to enjoy the Time Tower show. This was a tour of the tours history presented in a really fun way which kept the girls’ interest, even the twins who are only six. It was great to come away with an overview of the history of the castle and the surrounding area.

The grounds around Warwick castle are really stunning. It is worth a visit just to walk through the gardens and along the river.

Warwick castle was a brilliant place to visit in Winter. Although, we were there on a sunny day, there was so much to do inside that it would be perfect for a rainy day too. It was quieter than during the Summer, but there were still quite a few visitors and I can see why it was so popular. There is so much to see and do that we can’t wait for our next visit. When I looked through my photos I was surprised to see this spooky looking figure up in the battlements. Perhaps a character from Warwick Castle’s past. It was a wonderful birthday and a great way to start our year of fun as Merlin ambassadors. Read our other Warwick Castle reviews.
