Using Picnik to enhance your photos

I love digital cameras. Photographing children is hard, they wriggle and get bored, look away, blink, pull stupid faces, do anything except look at the camera. With a digital camera you can take loads of pictures and it doesn’t waste any ink. Out of 50 pictures of the children there is probably one brilliant one and two that are ok. The problem is you still don’t get an idea of what the final picture will look like.

Sometimes when you see the finished picture on the screen it’s really disappointing. An editing program like Picnik can help. In just a few clicks you can transfrom your picture from something meh into something weh hey! (No this isn’t a sponsored post it’s just really exciting!) I usually use Photoshop and you can create some amazing results like adding magical fairies. However it’s complicated and time consuming and you have to buy the program. When I saw lots of bloggers extolling the virtues of Picnik I couldn’t wait to give it a go.

The photo on the right is the original. All I did was boost colour and add a curved edge – a much more dramatic picture.

With this one I zoomed in with the crop tool and then used a pencil effect. I’m going to use this to make a little colouring book for my four year old for Christmas (by the way I already saw this on a blog – will add the backlink if anyone knows who it was).

These took about 10 minutes. However when I looked at the clock almost two hours had gone. Where did the rest of the time go? Adding pirate hats and beards to all my photos. Time well spent – I’m sure you agree.
