Go Ape with Days Out

A couple of weeks ago we were invited to a day out at Go Ape in Cannock Chase with Days Out. Molly was thrilled as she loves climbing and had wanted to try Go Ape for ages. I was interested in hearing more about Days Out too as I am always looking for ways to save money and have fun in  the holidays.

Cannock Chase is really beautiful and definitely somewhere I will be visiting again. We played giant Jenga and enjoyed a brunch while we learnt all the safety rules for going on the trail at Go Ape.

We tried out the Tree Top Junior Adventure which is suitable for children aged 6 and over. I have to say it was much higher than I was expecting. It was high enough for adults going round to feel like they have had a challenge too. The staff at Go Ape are really excellent and really made you feel confident and secure before going on. They were so calm and managed to get even the most reluctant climber around the course with gentle persuasion. I was so impressed!

Molly was raring to go on the journey there but I was a bit worried about how she would cope when she saw how high it was. Luckily I needn’t have worried. She loved it after going round the first part of the course slowly was soon running around ahead of me.

The course has three different routes and you can do them all in your time slot. They get progressively harder.

One of the hardest parts was where the bridge is split into different sections so you have to jump across from on log to the next while they are moving.

The most nerve wracking part was towards the end where there were separate logs made into a x shapes. It was quite tricky getting your arms and legs into the right position. You can see from the photo how high up we were. The good thing was that you don’t have to do this circuit – you can stick to the first circuit and just do that one. It is great as you can go at your own pace.

Molly had no worries on this one and was across it in no time!

The view from the treetops is really lovely. If you aren’t too busy looking at your feet of course.

Once you have gone round the circuit you go down the zip wire. This was the bit Molly was looking forward to most although you do land in a pile of wood chips – which isn’t the most dignified way to end the course.

At the end we were given badges and certificates and it really feels like you have achieved something, especially if you are nervous of heights. You get a good amount of time on the adventure but even so Molly wanted to go again. It is definitely something I would do in the future. She can’t wait to go on the adult course when she’s over 10.

After our adventure we were given a delicious BBQ lunch and the prettiest goody bags I’ve ever seen.

We explored Cannock Chase for an hour. It was a lovely walk through the woods. I am definitely planning on taking our bikes next time.

Molly loved the Sofia DVD which was in the goody bags and I was really impressed with my subscription to Days Out.

Days Out is an online attraction retailer which offers great discounts to thousands of places around the UK. There are over 8000 attractions on the site and vouchers available for most of them to offer cheaper entry. It is a really good website to use if you are travelling to a new area and want to research what to do. The site is really easy to navigate and you can also sign up for emails with details of the best deals. I think I’m going to get a lot of use out of it over the next year.

Parkdean Holiday Park Review

Parkdean Holiday Park Hayling Island

Last weekend we had a wonderful break in a caravan at the Parkdean Holiday Camp in Hayling Island. We haven’t stayed in a caravan since having children and I was looking forward to seeing if this was a holiday we would all enjoy and how it would compare with going abroad.

Parkdean Holiday Park Hayling Island

Hayling Island is on the South Coast near to Portsmouth. It has lovely Blue Flag beaches and a beautiful view across the Solent to the Isle of Wight. The park itself is really quiet and very well kept and clean. It is the perfect place to stay with young children.

We were staying for three nights and set off as soon as school was finished for the Summer. We arrived late at night but received a really warm welcome from the staff. We were excited to get to our caravan and impressed with how spacious it was. The girls loved the selection of goodies left for them.

The first thing I noticed about the caravan was how much storage there was. The kitchen had everything you would need to self cater, which definitely helps to keep the cost down. We ate at the restaurant and

The living area seemed really big, even though there was five of us, there was enough room. It was great to have the Tv and dvd player for the evenings.

There was a seating area and a dining table and chairs. They were all really comfortable.

The caravan sleeps 6 people comfortably. There are two twin rooms and a double. There are two shower rooms, which is really handy when you have little ones. The twin rooms are one end of the caravan and have lots of handy storage. The beds were very comfortable and the girls had a good nights sleep. Although the caravans look quite close together you couldn’t hear the neighbours and it did feel really quiet.

The beds were quite narrow and you might need a bed guard for younger children to keep them from falling out. Once of the best features is the washing machine. This was so handy when you have young children.

There is also a small patio area with a table and chairs. This is a lovely area to sit in the evening.

There is plenty of space around the caravan for the children to play. They had a lovely time.

The park was very friendly and that was probably because a lot of the caravans were residential. You could tell the owners loved the Parkdean holiday park and took a lot of pride individualising their caravans. This really made the park seem homely and welcoming.

Hayling Island is a lovely place to explore. We went out both days we were there. It is a proper English seaside town.

The best way to explore was to ride the little train along the bay.

We loved to look at the colourful beach huts.

It was great to get away from it all and spend time as a family. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Of course you have to stop and have an ice cream.

After a busy day at the beach there was lots to do at the Holiday Park in the evenings. There was a small arcade with a few rides and slot machines.

The girls liked the air hockey the best. There was also a kids club in the evening which the girls loved. They watched performances fro the Parkdean mascots Sid and Lizzy and took part in fun games and quizzes.

There is an adventure playground with swings and slides. As with the whole park this was exceptionally clean and well maintained.

We were incredibly lucky with the weather and managed to swim in the outdoor pool both days. It felt like we were in Spain. You can access the indoor and outdoor pools from the same changing room. You just get a band from Reception and need a pound for the lockers.

If it is raining there wis also a soft play area with a ball pool. There were so many things to do. We didn’t get chance to use the gym or the kids club.

We had a really lovely time at Parkdean Holiday Park. I would definitely go again, or stay in one of their other parks. It really showed what a brilliant time you can without leaving this country. I would definitely recommend it.

What's Happened? What's Happening?

Stay at the Playmobil Suite at the Waldorf Hotel

On saturday we were invited to London to visit the newly opened Playmobil Suite at the Waldorf Hotel. This is a special suite in the hotel which has been transformed with Playmobil toys and accessories to celebrate the 40th birthday of the well loved toys.

The Waldorf is an amazing hotel. It looks very grand but must have a real sense of fun to host such a child friendly event.

To celebrate the opening of the suite the function room had been transformed with some giant Playmobil figures and lots of large sets to play with. Molly could decide which to play with first. We were given a Panasonic W850 to film our day. You can see in the clip above. I really enjoyed using this Camcorder and the quality of the finished film is great. It was very easy to use and so light I could carry it around and it didn’t get in the way. It is now top of my Christmas list as I was so impressed with it.

She particularly liked the Playmobil football set. This is a fun set which actually kicks.

We were given a very fancy lunch, including sandwiches which had been cut so straight the chef must have used a ruler.

Molly loved the puppet show. There was a real rabbit who appeared by magic.

After lunch we had a tour to see the new suite.

The suite itself is really fun. It looks so bright and colourful, with balloons and toys everywhere you look. Most hotel rooms feel very sparse and grown up, here the children will have so much fun. There is even Playmobil bedding.

We liked the idea of bathing with dinosaurs. The suite costs from £450 for a night and is suitable for 2 adults and 2 children (plus a few dinosaurs, a princess and several knights and police men).

The ‘PLAYMOBIL Suite’ at The Waldorf Hilton, London, will be available from Sat 12th July, 2014, and will be available for 40 days and 40 nights until Wed 20th August, 2014.
