One of our favourite children’s books is The Snowman by Raymond Briggs. We read it every year as part of our advent calendar of books. It is perfect for the twins who are just starting to read, as there are no words so you can make up your own story.

We wanted to make some ornaments to go with the book. As snowmen are such a simple shape I wasn’t to let the girls make their own decoration after looking at the books. I set out some materials for them but then gave them a free reign to make what they wanted. The results were great.
Materials Needed To Make The Snowman
- cup cake cases
- ribbon
- googly eyes
- sticky dots
- orange card
- black card

They got stuck in really quickly and had a good idea of what they wanted to create.

Although this was to go on a Christmas tree Rose had her own ideas and wanted to give her snowman a body and used some pegs for arms and legs. She decided he was Olaf from Frozen.
She also didn’t want to use buttons for his buttons but gave him a row of googly eyes instead!

Molly made her snowman to look like the one from the book with a green felt hat and an orange button for his tangerine nose.

Our tree isn’t up yet but I will take a picture of it hanging on the tree when it is.
