It’s been thirteen years since we were married at Nailcote Hall in Berkswell. There is nothing I would change about the day – it was absolutely perfect. This is in large part due to the amazing venue. Nailcote Hall is a real treasure. It is such a pretty house, tucked into the stunning Warwickshire countryside. We were invited back to review the Sunday lunch menu and I was incredibly happy that it was just as lovely as my memories.
The hall and grounds are such a romantic setting. It was built in 1640 just before the start of the English Civil War. It is set in 15 acres of beautiful countryside, the perfect English country house.
From the moment you arrive you are given a warm welcome, and instantly feel relaxed. There was a big range of people enjoying their Sunday dinner. There were golfers, how had just finished a round of golf eating in the bar, retired couples and families with small children. We dined in the Oak Room in the 17th Century Manor house. Sunday lunch costs £24.50 for two courses and the menu was really delicious and exquisitely presented.
My starter was smoked salmon, which was fresh and tasty with a watercress garnish.
For the main, I had pan fried trout. This had so much flavour. My husband had the more traditional Sunday lunch of roasted sirloin of Scottish beef served with roast potatoes, vegetables, Yorkshire pudding and pan gravy.
My dessert was a pure sunshine on a plate. It was fruit salad and pink Champagne sorbet. This was such a lovely end to the meal as it felt very indulgent but really cleansed the palette. we finished with coffee and truffles. The whole meal was delightful and it is definitely somewhere we will return for Sunday Lunch or for special occasions.
After we finished eating we walked around the grounds and had great fun reminiscing and seeing what had changed. There is now a large marquee so you can have up to 250 guests at your event.
There are so many lovely areas where you can sit and enjoy the view.
The main thing I loved about getting married at Nailcote Hall was being able to make an entrance. The grand staircase is perfect for the Bridal March and really makes it seem like a special occasion. What bride doesn’t want to make an entrance?
I also loved the fact that everything is in one place. It is a lovely space to get married in as well as a bar area and a large room for the wedding breakfast. The guests can then spread out to the balcony or out into the grounds. Then afterwards there are the sumptuous hotel rooms so everyone can stay together with no need for taxis or rides home.
Our meal at Nailcote Hall was a lovely way to spend the afternoon. We left feeling relaxed and happy and with more lovely memories to treasure.
Disclaimer: we were invited to a Sunday Lunch for two for the purposes of this review.
