Farmhouse Breakfast Week 2014

This week it is Farmhouse Breakfast Week. This is annual celebration championing the importance of breakfast. To celebrate I have tried to really shake up my breakfasts and make them a bit more exciting. I have to admit I am totally rubbish in the mornings. The most I can manage is pouring cereal into a bowl and grunting grumpily at the children. Luckily they are good eaters and most of the time polish off their breakfasts. They are also really keen on weetabix and porridge which is good as they are so healthy.

Luckily to help me make breakfast more interesting I was sent a gorgeous hamper of breakfast treats.

Monday

We started off with these tasty Alphabites. This is a multigrain cereal in cute letters. These were so tasty I didn’t get a picture as they were all gone too quickly. I found they were really great for a healthy snack during the day too and fun for making words as they are shaped like letters.

Tuesday

Porridge. The weather has really gone cold. So we had some warming porridge topped with blueberries and cinnamon. Yum. There wasn’t any left at the end!

Wednesday

Boiled eggs and brown bread soldiers with fresh orange juice. This was the most filling and I didn’t feel at all hungry until lunch time. It was the most complicated though and definitely not one I would be able to do every day.

Thursday

I was feeling a bit tired (as you can tell by the picture). Luckily in the hamper was a tasty granola packed with seeds to give everyone a bit of energy for the day. I topped it with a of honey for extra sweetness.

OK I have to admit this is a bit of a cheat as I made this for second breakfast for my little hobbits. There was no way I was up for cooking at 7am this morning. I used the recipe from the Farmhouse breakfast booklet and made some tasty granola pancakes for a mid morning treat for the twins and me. I will definitely make these again – but at the weekend!

I’ve really enjoyed this experiment. It has been a great start to the day having something more exciting than cereal. The breakfasts have definitely given me more energy and I haven’t needed to snack as much during the mroning. I’ve noticed the same with the girls as well. I will definitely try to keep it up even if it’s only once or twice a week.

Disclaimer: I was sent a hamper to celebrate farmhouse week.
