Our favourite activity for Autumn Half Term is to visit Hatton Country World for pumpkin week. It is a brilliant family day out at any time of year but at Halloween it is really special. There is nothing better than getting out in a real pumpkin patch to choose your pumpkin.

During pumpkin week, Hatton is transformed. There are pumpkins everywhere as well as lots of creepy Halloween characters. Even the staff are dressed in Halloween costumes. There is a trail of pumpkins to find around the farm and you can win a prize if you manage to find them all.

As well as the Halloween events there are lots of farm themed activities. The girls love being able to get close to the animals. This time they even had the chance to hold a snake.

There are lots of animals on the farm including, pigs, sheep, cows, goats and lots and lots of guinea pigs. There is a new section we hadn’t seen before with snakes, tarantulas and lizards. This was also the venue for some spooky Halloween tales told by Agnes the witch.

There are lots of different areas with fun things to do. The girls enjoyed driving mini tractors around the track.

There is a large Helter Skelter and lots of fairground rides to go on as well as a couple of bouncy castles and trampolines. I like the fact you don’t have to pay extra for these rides: they are included in the price.

This year another attraction has been added for older children. There is a laser combat area which looked amazing for children aged over 8. We can’t wait to try this on our next visit. For older children, those brave enough anyway, there is also a Haunted House.

If you need a break there are a couple of places you can sit and get something to eat outside as well as a couple of indoor cafes. You can also watch one of the children’s shows. We watched The Fiendish Friends Puppet Show which had funny characters including a rat and a zombie. The girls thought it was hilarious.

There is a large indoor soft play area if the weather is bad. The slides are amazing, including a couple with vertical drops.

You can also take a tractor ride around the farm. At Halloween, this is transformed into a scary into a ride through a zombie town with live action zombies.

The girls are really into My Little Pony so we treated them to a pony ride. They were a little nervous before.

The horses were so gentle it was a lovely introduction to horse riding. You do have to pay a small amount extra for a horse ride, but it was a fun addition to their day.

The final part of the day was to head to the Pumpkin field to get our pumpkins. We had a quick stop along the way to take a photo.

The pumpkin field is set on the other side of the farm this year. There seem to be even more pumpkins than normal and the ground was much more even so it was easier to walk across.  `

The girls loved seeing the different pumpkins. There was a mixture of green and orange pumpkins of all different sizes and shapes. They spent a lot of time trying to find the perfect pumpkins.

The girls wanted to pick the biggest one they could find but soon realised that they would be too big to carry.

The best thing about these pumpkins is they are all different sizes and shapes, they are not like te perfect ones in the shops and they are fresh and muddy from the ground.

After a hunt, the girls chose their pumpkins.

They thought it was very funny that I tripped over a pumpkin when I was taking their photo.

We had a brilliant day. We stayed for about five hours and there was still more we could have done. Tickets for pumpkin week cost £14.95 with one adult free with every two full paying visitors. If you are close to Warwickshire in the West Midlands then it is a fabulous day out for all the family and a great way to get in the mood for Halloween.
