Weddings are really exciting events for little ones but they are so different from everyday life that they can take a bit of preparation so they know what to expect. Luckily there are some really lovely picture books about weddings. They are a little bit more appealing to girl than boys and I’ve struggled to find any books about weddings aimed at boys. Although I’m sure Yuk! would be a story which would have universal appeal.
Mia the Bridesmaid Fairy by Daisy Meadows
There are two versions of this, a chapter book and an early reader. These are great for older girls who are going to be bridesmaids. The stories all have very similar story lines so are perfect for newly independent readers (though not so great to read aloud).
Princess Evie’s Ponies: Confetti the Magic Wedding Pony by Sarah KilBride and Sophie Tilley
A pretty sparkly book which features a glittering wedding pony called Confetti. See my review here.
Princess Poppy: The Wedding by Janey Louise Jones
Princess Poppy is a great character to be in a book about weddings. She wants to be good and look lovely but makes mistakes. The part where she tries on the bride’s dress had my daughter gasp in shock. It is a great lesson for how to behave at weddings and luckily everything turns out well in the end.
Lettice: The Bridesmaid by Mandy Stanley
For children who have never been to a wedding this book is perfect. Lettice wants to learn all about weddings and being a bridesmaid. She is a really cute bunny and the twins love her adventures, particularly the part where she gets to try new clothes.
Sticker Dolly Dressing: Bridesmaids by Usborne
This would be a lovely present for a prospective Bridesmaid. The sticker pages are great to do together and chat about what is going to happen. I took this with me to the hotel we went to at the wedding and Molly had a lovely time dressing the girls in the picture the night before.
Yuk! by Kes Gray and Nick Sharratt
This book is perfect for any little wedding guests who aren’t so keen on dressing up. My girls are the complete opposite of Daisy and would wear bridesmaid dresses all day if I let them. However I know lots of little ones who hate dresses – especially frilly uncomfortable ones. Daisy books are so funny and I love the dress Daisy comes up with and finally wears to the wedding.

This week we have also made a wedding sensory box with the bits and pieces we collected at the wedding.
