After all the hustle and bustle of Christmas, it is lovely to have some quiet time to do a craft project together. We decided to make some New Year themed painted rocks to leave around the local area as a new years wish for people to find.
We found lots of dark grey rocks at the beach and thought they would be a wonderful background for fireworks. We used some Metallic pens from docrafts Papermania which showed up beautifully on the smooth black surface.
On the rocks, we put a simple New Years message and then drew some sparkly fireworks.
The girls enjoyed thinking of their own New Year’s messages to write on their rocks. I particularly like Charlotte’s golden rock, which said “You will shine in 2019”.
We found some brilliantly shaped rocks including one which looked like a capital A and a couple of large rock hearts. I helped a little by going over the writing so it was a bit clearer. This one says. “2019 is for 19 hugs”.
It doesn’t matter what size rock you have. The little rocks look cute with just the year on them.
If you only had white rocks you could always paint them black first. Or you could use Sharpies to make silhouettes- a lucky black vcat looks really effective.
This is a really simple craft which the whole family can make together. Then you can get some fresh air and hide them for others to find. Hopefully it will bring them some good luck in the New Year.
