So Summer is officially over. It seems to have flown by. With the new school term means that dreaded dilemma: what to put in the lunchboxes. How to make something healthy and satisfying that will keep until lunchtime and the kids will actually eat? It is so difficult. So here are a few ideas for fun healthy lunches.
One of the main things I worry about when the children are at school is whether they will get enough to drink. I want them to have a juice drink which will quench their thirst and give them some vitamins. I went to Tesco to buy the Capri Sun pouches. They were really easy to find on the Squash aisle.
I was pleased by the price of the Capri Sun as they are currently on sale for £1.32 for three. Capri Sun Fruit Crush comes in three flavours: Apple and Pear, Tropical and Apple and Blackcurrant. We bought all three to test them.
Capri Sun Fruit Crush is made with 75% Fruit Juice and 25% Spring Water. It tastes really natural with a more subtle flavour and seemed to quench the girls’ thirst really well. Every pouch of Capri-Sun Fruit Crush is 1 of your 5 a day which is really good when you are trying to give your children a healthy lunch.
We decided to have a taste test to see which flavour everyone liked the best. I preferred the Tropical which was really summery and would be great to add a bit of Summer to your lunch box.
The girls all preferred apple and blackcurrant, which I wasn’t surprised about as it is their favourite flavour of juice.
Healthy Lunch Ideas
This Summer I have been making lots of fun lunches for the twins with a letter theme to get them ready for starting in Reception. They enjoyed looking for the letters on the Capri Sun pouches and so I thought I would make them a sun themed lunch. This is a great way of getting a bit of sunshine into your children’s lunch.
Sun Themed Lunch
The sun themed lunch is cheese on toast cut into a circle with a cookie cutter and then with alternating triangles of cheese and melon around the outside. It looks so bright and colourful and goes perfectly with the Tropical Capri Sun Fruit Crush. It was a great lunch to have on the last day of the holidays but would be just as good in a lunch box to keep Summer going just a little longer.
Present Themed Lunch
What better thing for lunch during the first week of school than a present theme? This lunch is cute parcels made with small squares of tuna and sweetcorn sandwiches tied together with cheese strings. There are also grapes and a cupcake for a treat. This would also work well when it is a birthday.
Butterfly Themed Lunchbox
This is so easy to make and one of the girls favourite lunches. There is a ham and cheese sandwich made with butterfly cutters and decorated with vegetables. There is a fruit in a flower shape and a cheese shaped b. It is easy to make yet really pretty.
I was really surprised with the taste of the new Fruit Crush range from Capri Sun and would definitely consider buying it. The pouches are the perfect size for a lunchbox or an after school treat.
