The time has come for the children to go Back To School and so we have teamed up with Innocent Smoothie to take part in an alphabet challenge. We had to take pictures of lots of things for our chosen letter – B. This was a great activity for us as the twins are just about to start in Reception and I wanted to do some phonics work to get them ready.
Button Biscuits
We started the day baking button biscuits. We used a gingerbread recipe and some circle and b shaped cookie cutters.
The buttons are easy to make with a straw to cut the holes
We also made some b biscuits.
Once they were finished we decorated them with button sweets.
Bird and Butterfly Spotting
While the biscuits were cooling we headed out to spot some birds and butterflies. The girls used their spotter books.
The found a lot of sparrows and a couple of gulls and some cabbage white butterflies.
When we got home they pained some birds and butterflies using the books to help.
We hung the pictures on the washing line to dry.
B is for butterfly themed lunch
As it was lunch we enjoyed a butterfly themed lunch.
Bead Threading
A great activity for practicing fine motor skills is bead threading. The girls love to do this and it really helps if you use a pipe cleaner as it makes it so much easier. I twisted some pipe cleaners into letter b’s for them to thread the beads onto.
B is for bag play dough
I made the girls some pretty pink play dough and they used it to make bags using pipe cleaners and sparkly gems.
Button Letters
The twins practiced writing b’s using buttons.
Banana Smoothies
After all that fun it was time for a drink – what else could we have but Banana smoothies. My favourite kind is Pineapple, Banana and Coconut Innocent Smoothie. Luckily the girls prefer Strawberries and Banana so I get it to myself!
You can collect the Innocent Smoothie magnets.
This year, innocent are running an on pack promotion so that everyone can receive their own name in magnets. This is fab as we all know that kids often don’t have enough magnets to spell their full names but now they can. All the details are on the packs, but it’s super easy. Once you’ve collected 6 (or more) barcodes you just need to send it over to the guys at innocent Towers, and they’ll send you out three names. What’s more, on the innocent website you can also take part in a really fun ‘design your own innocent alphabet’ competition. Click here to find out more: http://www.innocentdrinks.co.uk/alphabet.
The lovely people at Innocent sent me my blog name in magnets so we could take part in the challenge!
