The first thing my children do when they have a sensory play material like kinetic sand is make cakes or biscuits. The Kinetic Sand Build Bakery Boutique is just perfect for them. They love to watch the Great British bake Off and often pretend to be making cakes. This is a fabulous toy for any mini bakers as you can make cakes to your hearts content. and it even has somewhere you can display them.
There is something so inherently fun about kinetic sand. I often take it into school and everyone who passes it on the table can’t help but run their fingers through it. It is really fascinating and the perfect material for sensory play. Even the adults who go by can’t help but stop and play. In this set, you have two bags of kinetic sand, one pink and one blue. If you hate children mixing the colours and turning them all brown then you don’t need to worry: with this set as it turns purple when you mix them. So you get a sneaky bit of colour theory too.
As well as the sand you also get tools to mould the sand. The amazing thing about kinetic sand is that it will hold its shape. With this set, you can make candles, hearts, and even little strawberries.
The bakery comes in a box which doubles as a play area. This is brilliant for us at the moment as we are moving house and have folded away the table so we don’t have much space to play. When the girls want to do something fun we can get out the box and they have everything they need to play. There is even a little cardboard table and a cake stand to put your creations on.
The set costs £14.99. This would be the perfect birthday present as any child would love to play with it. If you are worried about the mess then don’t be. We actually found it really easy to clean up as the pieces stay together in clumps. It is not like a normal sand tray which gets everywhere. The box works well as it contains all the kinetic sand inside.
We loved playing with this set. It was great fun to pretend to be a bakery and for me to judge the different creations.
I would love to say that the girls made some amazing creations. They got a little obsessed with using the cutters to make tiny hearts. They had a competition to make as many little biscuits as they could. Oh well they had fun!
