Happy New Year!
I am really trying to start on a positive note for this year and so co-hosting this blog hop seems like a great place to begin. Looking back over 2012 its felt like a hard year for me – nothing particularly bad just a lot of hard work. A few memories stand out though and the post I have chosen is one of them. This is in my top ten most viewed posts – although it only had one comment. I did a small series of posts about one of our favourite books The Rainbow Fish but this is the one which has done the best.
I am not much of a needle woman and when I had the idea for this Rainbow fish costume for my daughter’s World Book Day at school I thought it would probably be a disaster. Somehow it worked! I loved the fact that Molly could help with her costume and did nearly all the cutting out. She was so proud of how she looked and that she had helped to make it. The costume really brought the story alive for her.
What makes the memory stand out especially clear was that I was able to go and help at the school that day. I took a load of our favourite books and read them to small groups of children for the morning. Since having the twins I have been full-time at home and hadn’t stepped foot in a school except for parents evening. It was so lovely to spend time with the children and see how much they enjoyed the stories. It made me remember what I love about teaching. Shortly after I was really lucky to start getting some part-time work and that morning in the hall gave me so much confidence that I could become “Mrs English” again.
