Indoor Fun For Autumn Half Term

Autumn is such a lovely time of year, with Halloween and Bonfire Night, crisp autumn walks and cosy nights by the fire. It is lovely spending time together as a family. Unfortunately, the weather can be unpredictable so it is worth having two plans ready, one for wet days and one for dry. Of course, you can always bundle up and take an umbrella with you and get outside. If you really don’t fancy braving the weather then here are some ideas for things you can do inside.

Movie Time

We love to watch movies as a family. I find it a great excuse to see the latest Disney or superhero film, pure escapism. We love to go to the cinema but as a family of five it can prove costly, so make sure we have a cineworld discount code. A trip to the cinema is not complete without a big bag of popcorn. We also save a few movies to watch in the evening after a busy day. If you have been out for the day then there is nothing better than cuddling up with the kids and the cats, a mug of hot chocolate and a movie.

Carve a Pumpkin

With Halloween coming in the middle of the holidays then there are lots of spooky activities to be had. Our favourite activity is pumpkin carving. We love coming up with lots of different ways to paint and carve our pumpkins. Of course, it is much harder to actually carve the pumpkin than you remember.

Bake Together

If the weather is bad then it is a good idea to do some baking. Children can learn lots of new skills including reading and following recipes, measuring food hygiene and healthy eating. If you don’t want to make biscuits or cakes then you could make something for dinner, like homemade pumpkin shaped pizza.

Art Attack

Autumn is a lovely time for arts and crafts. Autumn colours are so beautiful. You could paint a Still Life of autumn produce, such as pumpkins and squash. Younger children could print using apples or pumpkins, this is brilliant process art and can make pretty cards or wrapping paper for Autumn birthdays. Autumn colours are wonderful for sensory play as well. Children would love to play with slime or playdough the colour of autumn leaves.

Whatever you decide to do make sure you stay safe and warm and have a lovely half term break.
