Sorry. Sorry. I had to call the post that! In fact if anyone mentions Hama Beads (as they do fairly often in our house.) I have to sing it too. It’s a disease – I can’t help myself. Hama beads are very popular with me and the girls. They are a really fun craft which is great for practicing fine motor skills and improving your concentration. When we were sent these amazing Hama bead sets from DKL we were all delighted.
It has taken a while to write this post simply because Molly didn’t want me to review it until she had made all the animals in her Safari Hama Bead set. As there are 10 different designs you can make this has taken her a bit of time but she has such a sense of accomplishment.
This is the first time we have use the mini beads. These are suitable for older children because they are so tiny. Also you do not have a clear board so you have to follow the pattern in front of you. it does make it much harder. Molly is six and was able to do these sets independently, although she did have a habit of spilling them occasionally and would get a bit stuck from time to time.
The designs take a lot of concentration. You will in the boards and then iron them. This fuse the beads together.
The twins were sent a My First Hama Beads Maxi set. This is brilliant for children aged 3+. the beads are much bigger and easier to handle and as the boards are clear all you have to do is match the colours.
The children really enjoyed matching the colours up. Charlotte did really well making a puppy and with a lot of help was able to get it the same as the picture.
She was so excited with the final result and played with it all day.
Rose (as always) had her own ideas. She wanted to make a bed for Minnie mouse. She used the circle to make her own design and has since made lots of them. They make great coasters!
This is a brilliant project and really keeps children busy for hours. Of course there is a little bit of a mess factor. I would like to say the Hama beads stay in their box neatly but that just doesn’t happen with my children. The design of these sets does help as the box has handy containers. To be honest it’s worth cleaning a few Hama Beads off the floor to get such stunning results as this. I think these are brilliant presents and will be buying some more for Christmas.
Disclaimer: I was sent the hame Beads sets as part of the DKL blogger program.
