Disclaimer: We were sent a pack of Gruffalo activities for the purposes of this review.
As a teacher, I am always looking for new and interesting ways to deliver the curriculum. So I was delighted to see that The Forestry Commission have produced this lovely teacher’s pack based on the Gruffalo, one of our favourite books to use in class.

There is a good reason why Julia Donaldson books have become so popular. They show children that even the smallest creature can overcome their fears. It really taps into the children’s imaginations and they produce some lovely creative writing based on the lovable characters. This pack gives lots of fun ways to extend and enhance their learning. It is designed to give ideas for using in the local woods and would fit well with the science and geography units.

The pack is suitable for Early Years and Key Stage One.
Scene setting
• This section will enable learners to get to know the Gruffalo story, the characters and the forest environment.

• EYFS – Physical development; Expressive arts & design
• Design & technology KS1 – design, make, build, evaluate

Kids learn best when they are having fun and outdoor learning is so important for that. These activities bring the curriculum to life, and make it really engaging. I am definitely going to look at how we can plan them into our Julia Donaldson unit next year.
