The twins learned about dinosaurs in Reception this term. They absolutely loved the topic and for a while all they wanted to do was play with dinosaurs. they were particularly fascinated with what happened to the dinosaurs and we talked about the Ice Age. I thought it would be fun to freeze some dinosaurs for them to excavate.
Molly helped me freeze the dinosaurs overnight. She liked being in on the joke. We added a bit of blue food colouring to make the ice stand out.
The twins were really keen to get into the frozen ice and find what was inside. They tried to chip away at the ice but decided that it was best to watch them melt and see what would happen.
The dinosaurs looked a bit creepy in the ice.
As the ice melted you could make out more details.
Can you recognise what dinosaurs are hiding?
The ice took all day to melt and the twins got a bit impatient at the end.
Finally the dinosaurs were free.
This was a really simple yet fun thing to do. It would be a great way to introduce a new toy or to start a dinosaur topic.
