Esio Trot at the Roald Dahl Museum

Roald Dahl Museum

To celebrate the launch of Esio Trot on DVD we were invited to the Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre set in the village where Dahl wrote his books for 36 years. If you are in or near Buckinhamshire then this is a lovely place to visit especially if you have children who love Roald Dahl.

Roald Dahl Museum

As soon as Molly saw the large gates she was excited as she loves Roald Dahl books. Inside there are three galleries which focus on different aspects of Dahl’s life. Each encourage you to explore and touch things and there are dressing up areas where you can become one of his characters. There are lots of creative ideas for encouraging children to think of their own ideas for stories or illustrations. We followed a trail around the galleries finding lots of information on Roald Dahl’s life and writing.

I was amazed you got to see the actual chair where Dahl wrote his much loved stories as well as all the eccentric items he kept in his writing shed. Some were quite disgusting and you could see where he got his ideas.

The girls enjoyed decorating some little tortoises.

Looking at the website there are often similar crafts and activities taking place at the museum.

I liked the display where children had written their favourite Roald Dahl books. Molly wrote Matilda or the BFG as hers.

To finish the day the girls had their faces painted. Charlotte was a fox.

I’m not sure what Molly was but she looked really colourful! The girls had a lovely day at the Museum. It is aimed at 6-12 year olds, and thought the twins were a bit younger they still enjoyed it. A family ticket costs just £21. Tiger face paint

You can buy your own copy of the Esio Trot DVD. You can also get these lovely Esio Tro themed gift ideas from the museum shop.
