At the weekend we celebrated 100 years of disney. What better way than with a performance of our favourite show Disney On Ice? This is a brilliant family show which really does have something for everyone as it highlights favourite Disney movies over the years.
We went to the 2pm performance at the NIA. After much debate the twins decided to go as Anna from Frozen and Rapunzel – their favourite Disney princesses.
They were so excited getting dressed up. I think that is part of the whole experience. We always count how many of each costume we see. This year there were so many Elsa costumes – by far the most popular.
We arrived really early to get our seats but there is so much to look at the time went really quickly. The set doesn’t give much away with glowing blue lights and the battlements of a castle.
Then suddenly the lights go down and you can see all the twinkling lights from the toys in the audience. It is a brilliant atmosphere with a room full of excited children.
The show itself has many old favourites. Each part is introduced by Mickey and Minnie Mouse. They introduce their friends from Disney’s Mulan, The Lion King and Pinocchio, and Disney/Pixar’s Finding Nemo, The Incredibles and Toy Story.
The first half starts in brilliant style with Aladdin. The theme of the first half was friendship with Aladdin and the Genie dancing together to the hit “You never had a friend like me.” The ice dancers are really breathtaking – there was even a back flip. We loved it when lots of Genie’s appeared as if by magic.

Rose was excited as there was a big scene with her favourite character Belle from Beauty and the Beast.
The end of the first half was trip to Disney World with dances from different dancers from around the world. Each pair of dancers had movable scenery with sparkling lights on it. The girls were thrilled to see Mickey is a flying balloon covered in fairy lights.
After a short interval there were more favourites. We loved seeing the amazing fish costumes in Finding Nemo.

The snow in the Mulan sequence was so beautiful – it made me hope the Frozen On Ice tour comes to the UK. A big highlight was The Incredibles – the fun costumes and great skating was thrilling. We loved the whole performance and it reminded us of a couple of films we haven’t watched with the girls for a while like Lion King and Pinnoccio. I think this show will appeal to girls and boys. Although there is a lovely section where all the princesses dance with their princesses there are also parts which boys will love, like the funny antics of Timon and Pumba and the dancing toy soldiers.
You can still see Disney on Ice at the NIA until the 2nd November.
