Our Rating

What is DC’s Justice League: Cosmic Chaos all about?

Justice League: Cosmic Chaos is an action-adventure video game based on the DC Comics Superhero team of the same name. The game’s story uses many of the justice league team including SupermanBatman, Cyborg, Green Lantern and Wonder Woman to stop the evil plan of Mr. Mxyzptlk. His aim is to turn the town of Happy Harbor into his own personal Metropolis.

Game Play Style

The controls are based on a 3rd-person top-down view and it’s very easy for a youngster to get the hang of it. Story elements are cut scenes which progress the story at a fast pace. The feel of the game makes it seem like you’re watching a cartoon. In fact, the experience is a bit like being inside a comic book! Despite the violence of the game, it’s quite tame. My 6-year-old like beating up the fish monsters.

Game Playing Fun Factor

This game was a big hit in our household. The cute style and funny animations added to the easy game mechanics and quick response of the controls gave the kids a fun environment to mess around in.

The story was engaging and at a level that younger kids can understand. It’s probably a little bit too basic for adults. It does require that the player has decent reading skills if they are to play the game successfully on their own. My kids struggled a little in this regard, especially during the ‘talking’ scenes. For example, Wonder Woman needs to get information from Cyborg early in the game and it needed me to guide the on-screen choices.

What Could Be Improved About the Game?

We are keen gamers so a decent 2-player mode is a must. This game does have a 2 player mode but it’s not as good as say a Lego game where the screen splits when the two characters walk away from each other. In this game, the screen’s ‘camera’ fights for the viewpoint which can make progress frustrating. Doubly so when certain players want to do something different. Co-operation is therefore imperative to make progress in 2playermode!

Other than that the only other issue we found is that the game mechanics required a level of understanding which younger players might not have experienced before. For example, the need to follow directions and navigate to points on a map. This isn’t a big issue however, and actually, it provides a good introduction to some of these aspects of gameplay which will serve them well in the future.

What’s Our Take?

This is the first game of this type that we’ve introduced to our little ones. We tend to steer clear of beat-em-ups but on this occasion, we decided to give it a go. To our surprise they loved it. Whacking the fish monsters was lots of fun and they enjoyed running around and using their superpowers. It also helped that Wonder Woman was such a prominent my character girls love her. We definitely recommend this game to budding super heroes!
