Christmas Tree Card Craft For Kids

Christmas tree Christmas cards

I’ve fallen out of love with Christmas cards recently. They seem so expensive and ultimately wasteful. I want to get the girls to make all our cards this year as well as gifts for their family. We needed an easy Christmas card which they could make a lot of quickly. Luckily Charlotte had an amazing idea for making a Christmas tree Christmas card using a real piece of Christmas foliage. I loved the idea and thought it would work brilliantly as a card and be suitable for children of all ages age 3+ to make with varying levels of supervision.

This craft only requires a few simple materials.

You will need:

  • A twig from a pine tree
  • blank card
  • sticky gems/sequins
  • stars/embellishments
  • washi tape
  • glue, pen and scissors
crafting with Christmas tree

Choose a Christmas tree shaped twig from a pine tree. Glue to the centre of the card.

Decorate with sticky gems or sequins. Add a gummed star to the top. Alternatively, you could draw it on with a pen.

Choose one of the colours of gem to decorate the edges of the card. You could use washi tape or draw a decoration with pens.

Add a message to the front and inside of the card.

This was the first card Charlotte made. I wanted her to write the Merry part on the blank area of the card but she always has her own ideas. Charlotte placed the gems at the edge

I used similar colours for the gems and the washi tape. I wish I’d used a silver star on top rather than gold to be really colour coordinated.

If you were going to make this with a lot of children then you would need to pre-cut lots of twigs form a pine tree.

Younger children would need more supervision. You could also stick the washi tape for them or use a patterned background. You could always paint a snowy background or picture of a house to add the Christmas tree too. You could cut out some presents from coloured paper to put under the tree.

I like the fact you can make different shaped cards. I always like to make tiny cards, and use them as gift tags. This idea would work brilliantly. I like this long thin card which Charlotte designed. The red background looked really striking.
