Best Crafts to Do With Your Kids This Summer

As the summer holiday rapidly approaches, it can be easy for parents to start panicking about how they are going to fill their kids’ time. If you are worried about the expense of carting your kids to the zoo or a theme park every day, you should know that crafts can be just as fun as big day trips and can keep your kids entertained for hours. With this in mind, here are some of the best crafts that you can enjoy with your children all summer long.

Make A Quilt With Kids

Although you might associate quilt-making with advanced sewers, this is not the case, and it is relatively simple to teach your kids how to get stuck into quilt-making. Your kids will only need simple sewing skills to get started, and it is easy to shop quilt fabrics online when you need them. Not only does quilt-making take hours of their time, meaning that the project can keep them distracted every day throughout their summer holiday, but they will also end up with a beautiful quilt that they have designed themselves, and which can keep them warm when the colder weather hits.

Create Homemade Water Bombs!

With many places across the world already seeing extreme heat this summer, your kids might be desperate to keep as cool as possible. If that is the case, you can make the most of the summer’s heat by creating home-made water bombs. Although these are not crafts that you can keep forever, home-made water bombs can be immensely fun to make – and play with – although you might need to lay down rules about throwing them inside first.

Build Suncatchers

If your kids would rather enjoy the sun from inside your home, you should consider getting them started on building their own suncatchers. You can create suncatchers by stringing together beads, glass or by recycling plastic lids and packaging. If you do not want to make a mess within your home, you might also consider opting for one of the many build-your-own suncatcher kits on the market, which allow your kids to use their imagination to simply colour in and design a ready-made suncatcher.

Get Sand-Savvy

There is no material more reminiscent of summer than sand, though, and there are many ways that you can use sand within your craft projects. For instance, you can dye sand with pretty colours that can be used to create paintings and pictures, and you can use stencils to guide the sand in question into any shape that your children desire. You might also consider using sand to create traditional sandcastles that can remind you of the beach even if you are unable to travel to one this year.

Create A Volcano

If your kids are starting to fall behind with work, though, you can easily combine their crafty side with schoolwork. There are many crafty science experiments that you can try in your kitchen, and creating a volcano is one of the quickest and easiest. All you have to do is make some papier-mâché for your children that they can then make into a volcano model and paint – you can even get it to explode, if you want to.
