We had an incredibly warm welcome at the George in the Tree Beefeater restaurant last week. We were asked to try the new festive menu which is available from the beginning of December.
I think all restaurants should be reviewed by children. They are the ultimate critics, because they say exactly what they think and if they don’t like something will simply refuse to eat it. Also they will text how flexible an establishment is as they are guaranteed to throw a few disasters in the mix. We were incredibly early for our meal but the friendly staff served us straight away, even though it was way before our booking. Also one of the girls accidentally smashed a glass, which was cleared up swiftly and without any fuss. At a different restaurant, we would have been made to feel really embarrassed and would have probably left early.
The children were kept entertained with a really lovely Mr Men themed magazine to colour, one of the best I’ve seen. They didn’t have long to wait. My starter of breaded garlic and herb mushrooms arrived quickly. They were really light and tasty and a good way to start the meal.
The kids meals were served in a really fun way. The girls loved having a little gravy pot to pour on their sausages.
They also tried the milkshakes which were really chocolaty. I was pleased with the portion sizes which were perfect for 5-8-year-olds.
My meal was stunning and cooked to perfection. A piece of perfectly cooked fillet steak Rossini served with warm ciabatta and topped with a smooth chicken liver pâté. I really enjoyed eating the sides which went with this. It came with fluffy dauphinoise potatoes, slow-roasted tomato and mushroom and covered with a rich beef jus.
The puddings were a highlight for me. I had a really generously sized portion of apple and cherry crumble. The perfect pudding for cold winters nights. The girls all chose the mini chocolate challenge, a fun pudding with chocolate brownies, marshmallows, ice cream and chocolate dipping sauce, which satisfied their love of chcolate.
We had a lovely evening at George in the Tree and were impressed with the festive menu. Three-course meals cost just £18.99 and you are really getting a lovely meal with a fantastic family atmosphere. It would be a lovely venue for a Christmas meal with family or friends and would be great for a staff night out. I liked the fact the festive menu had so much choice so you didn’t have to have a traditional turkey meal. It still felt really special, usually with a family friendly restaurant you compromise on the quality of the food and I definitely didn’t feel this was the case at Beefeater. I am delighted we have found this lovely restaurant, and looking forward to returning and trying more of the menu.
