If you’re expecting to usher a new life into the world, then you might find yourself a little bit stressed out by the huge list of things that you’ll need to prepare before the birth actually arrives. Ideally, you’ll want to get everything in order well ahead of time – that way, if your new arrival comes that little bit early, you’ll still be prepared.

Among the most important items are clothes. These come in a range of styles and types for a range of occasions. Just like adults, babies need clothes that are appropriate for all circumstances. So, exactly what should go onto your new-baby checklist? Let’s take a look at a few of the essential items.

Pyjamas

The right sleepwear is essential. For the first few months of its life, your baby is going to be doing more sleeping than any other activity – and you’ll need to make sure they’re dressed for it. Look for something comfortable, and ideally sustainable. Baby bamboo pyjamas do the job admirably.

Bodysuits

Most of the time, your baby will be wearing a bodysuit underneath all of their other clothes. You just need a few of these. They hook around the bottom, so they’re easy enough to slide in and out when you need to change.

Socks and booties

You can’t have too many socks. Your baby will also need boots – even if they can’t yet walk.

Cardigans

Cardigans have the advantage of being warm, while still offering you an easy means to getting them in and out. You don’t want to be reliant on jumpers that you need to pull over their head.

Swaddler

A swaddler is a little bit like a straight jacket. It will let your baby relax, and may help them to sleep for a little bit longer. With that said, it’s not right for every baby – and you might find that your mileage varies.

Special Occasion Outfits

While there’s nothing to say that a baby will remember a special occasion early on in their life, it’ll provide you with some good memories if you commit to something like Hallowe’en or Christmas, and get your baby involved with a special one-off outfit. It’ll provide a sense of novelty if nothing else.

Mittens and Hats

If the baby’s due to arrive when the weather is cold, then providing them with protective clothing for their fingers and head is essential. In summer, a hat is arguably even more important, as it’ll keep the sun off their face.

Bibs

Your baby is inevitably going to make a mess during mealtimes. You can limit the damage with the help of the right bib. Choose one that’s not going to show up stains too badly.
