Disclaimer: We were sent the kit for the purposes of this review.
There couldn’t be a better time to take up a new craft or go back to something you used to enjoy. Cross stitch is perfect because there is something very relaxing and calming about counting up the stitches and watching the pattern take shape. It is the perfect project for while you are watching TV. I’m trying to cut down on mindlessly scrolling through social media and this definitely helps give me something more productive to do. Love Crafts are still delivering so you can find all sorts of lovely craft projects such as knitting, crochet and embroidery, as well as patterns if you already have the materials at home.

I hadn’t done any cross stitch for a while when I was asked to review but was thinking about making something for my Mum’s birthday. This lovely kit from Bothy Threads was perfect as she loves feeding the birds in her garden. I also liked how there were four little pictures to make if it was too much I could always mix cut it and make smaller pictures.
The kit comes with everything you need to get started. There is a large pattern, two needles, aida, embroidery silk already sorted onto a card. The pattern was really easy to follow as the embroidery silk had a symbol next to it so you could choose the correct colour. I used my own embroidery hoop to keep the fabric taut. I also coloured in the pattern as I was going to make it a bit easier.
The colours of the birds are really lovely and it looks so lifelike. I love how there is a picture of the bird as well as its egg and the call it makes. It makes a really unique picture. I haven’t quite decided what to do with the cross-stitch when it’s finished. It would look lovely in a frame but would also make a nice cushion. In the meantime, I am planning to show the girls how to cross stitch with one of the first cross stitch kits from Love Crafts.
