5 Tips on Dealing with Stress

We can all tolerate stress at different levels. One person might find that the slightest thing will leave them feeling overwhelmed, while someone else may have a completely different mentality, and it might take a lot to make them feel the slightest bit stressed.

Whether you think you cope with stress well or whether you’re the complete opposite, which is perhaps how you found yourself on this post, we can all do with a tip or two on coping a little better.

I would like to think that, after having kids and perhaps going through big life events, that I can tolerate stress to a good level. Here are five of my top tips on how you can keep your stress-levels under control:

  1. Give Yourself a Solution

Let’s be honest, most of us are huge overthinkers, especially when it comes to the night time. The best thing that you can do when you’re feeling stressed is remind yourself that nothing in the world is probably worth getting that worked up about and that the problem that you’re worrying about is unlikely going to be that big.

You should give yourself a solution to the problems that you hayamix think you might face before they’ve happened. This way, you’ll be fully prepared should they happen – which is probably minimal.

For example, this campaign revealed that the biggest problem when it comes to ‘moving in day’ is receiving damaged furniture. Remind yourself that exchanges are always possible, and your house will eventually be perfect with time – nothing happens overnight.

  1. Exercise

Exercise is a great way to forget about the stresses that you’re currently facing as it releases positive endorphins It will give you chance to focus on something else, and completely release your anger.

Even just getting outside and going on a lunchtime walk or an after-work stroll will do wonders for your mind and body.

  1. A Good Night’s Sleep

Never underestimate the power of a good night’s sleep. It is easier said than done when you’re stressed, as your mind will wander and before you know it, it will be 4am until you get some shut eye.

Some simple tips to ensure that you’re not letting your thoughts runaway with you when its time to get some rest include pre-bed meditation and turning everything digital off before 8pm.

  1. Eat Well

There are certain foods that can leave you feeling a lot more positive and restful, while naturally, there are also foods that do the complete opposite.

Eggs are a great source of protein and contain tryptophan, a type of amino acid that can help contribute towards serotonin. This is a chemical neurotransmitter that helps regulate mood, memory and behaviour, while it is also thought to improve brain function and anxiety.

  1. Take a Long Bath

Baths are a great way to unwind after a hard day at work, looking after the kids or another stressful event. According to Neil Morris, a psychologist who surveyed 80 people, bathing can diminish feelings of depression because “baths give you a wonderful combination of isolation, quiet and comfort”.

You can even invest in some stress-busting bubbles just to make your bath that little bit more exciting and let your mind float into a positive place rather than negative.
